I just got my yearly boat insurance premium this week and am wondering if the amount is similar to what others pay. My premium for a 1989 Catalina 30 is $455.00, this is through Acadia Insurance Co. The policy covers my boat while in the water from May to Oct and then out of the water the remainder of the year. I would be interested in comparing this amount with other companies but do not want to go through the hassle of contacting them. Thanks CM Catalina 30 #5791

Premiums are regionalized, so you would not pay what I pay in FL. You pretty much get what you pay for. After hurricane Ivan ripped us up here last year, hundreds of boats were damaged or destroyed. BoatUS was by far tops in getting adjusters on scene, securing barges and cranes, sending out TowBoats to rescue beached boats, taking action to prevent further damage, and writing checks. Good insurance, but expensive. Allstate and State Farm did well with no complaints from anybody I know. Progressive got poor reviews from several people for slow service. It took them weeks to even get an adjuster down here. In one case, a C-270 lay on the beach for 6 weeks with no apparant damage. Vandals broke in and left the hatch open. Rain water ruined the engine and interior. Boat was totalled. I am not in the insurance business.

Sounds cheap

In Australia I pay over $2000 au ( 1560 US ) for my C380. Thats in the water all the time and up to 200 miles off the coast. In Melbourne there is never any danger of Hurricans, Typhoons etc. Like you guys get in the states. It seems we are paying top dollar.

I'm paying about $450 for my C34 through State Farm. BoatUS quoted me about $750 for the same coverage.

Sailing area for Insurance

My insurance covers me just in coastal waters of NE. They don't want me sailing too far from home, in case I cannot get back. CM

About Right

That's almost exactly what I used to pay for my 93 c-30, but they did not restrict time in the water. I hauled it in the winter anyway.
