Insurance
I've owned and sailed boats for over 30yrs. Most were insured by BoatUS. Never had any kind of claim until Hurricane Isabel came along and totaled my last boat. Boat US had a survey team on site (part of the marina was destroyed too) in a few days. They were busy as hell with hundreds of boats to look at. Yet, in the end, I had a check from them, for the full insured amount plus some more for personal gear lost, in less than a month. Friends of mine who insured their boats with other companies waited many months to settle. Some cases are still ongoing. I replaced my lost boat with another one. While I had it surveyed, all BoatUS wanted from me was a "self-survey" and some digital images of the boat. Very easy to deal with. I'm sticking with BoatUS.
