One recommendation...

Russ, you don't mention if coverage in Mexico is on the East or West coast. If West Coast, I'd encourage you to use Latitude 38's BB and website to solicit the same info. Because a good broker is what you should be looking for (vs. trying to become an expert on carriers & underwriters, U.S. based vs. offshore based, etc.) you may get some referrals local to your area with whom you could meet directly. OTOH I would highly recommend you contact Gary or Al Golden (principals) at International Marine Insurnace Company in Chester, MD, near the Bay Bridge that spans the Chesapeake. Former offshore cruisers, Al has been in this business for many years and receives positive reviews constantly, both in the press (SSCA Bulletins, Latitude 38 'Changes' column are recent notes I've seen) and from friends of mine to whom I recommend IMIS. (I'm traveling right now and so am unable to offer you their 800#; call 800 555-1212 for directory assistance). As you no doubt know, this isn't about shopping for 'best price'. Try to get a policy-to-policy comparison when you've narrowed the field, as the only thing you're really paying for is professional claim service as the coverage permits. I'd also encourage you to talk with someone who processed a claim thru your preferred broker and carrier. It won't be totally representative of what your experience may be, but it will help you set your expectations. Good luck. We were finding the offshore coverage market was contracting again as we returned to the States in 5/2002. Jack
