Boat In

Well, put the 170 in this weekend, but after balancing in the boat which was in the water while raising the mast, and asking my wife to put tension on the topping lift toward the bow so I could attach the jib/forestay to the roller furler, I find that I am missing the pin that attaches the forestay at the bow, so quickly dig out a split ring to hold the forestay in place while I figured out what to do. Five minutes later, I come to learn that the lowly split ring is not sufficiently strong to stand up to the tension on the forestay as I watched the mast come crashing down. The good news is that it does not appear to have done any damage. The bad news is that I have to put off going out for a couple weeks until I can get a new pin (plus a spare) and can then drive the 5 hours back up to the boat. Fortunately I have some places locally where I can get my sailing fix.

Qiuck Release Pin

David, I replaced the ring with the Qick Release Pin, made setting the boat up much easier. well worth the cost of the up grade. Glenn

Agree with Glenn

I bought quick release pins from Mcmaster.com for my shrouds, forestay, and boom and now my totaly setup / takedown time is 15 minutes or less! They are a bit costly but well worth it. Tim

Thanks for suggestions

Thanks for the comments. I did end up picking up some quick release pins at WM a couple of days ago. Will go up this w/e to try it out. Happy sailing!
