I did read the thread, but not much I can do
I appreciate the link to the Belize incident and was horrified to read that such an "stranding" could possibly occur in these modern times. I too am curious as to the outcome of this incident. There is not much one can do unless one has the facts to the case. IF I had reliable facts I would address a letter to our Canadian government and Belize concerning the matter.
