Boat Etiquette - Somethings are just WRONG!

I think of Lake Haven Marina as my home port. I used to have a slip there but now I trailer sail. Lake Haven also has an awesome "hole-in-the-wall" pub. I almost never see the guys at my marina go sailing... I think their boats are a place to crash on the weekends so they don't have to drive home after a night at the pub. :dance:
All of this points to the reasons for zoning codes and neighborhood associations. These people with their boats that look like junk yards probably live like Grimes in the Middletons' cartoon strip.
I want my boat to look like it is used and cared for but not so pretty that it attracts the eyes of thieves.

I think I keep my boat well, but...
- The picture of the window AC doesn't bug me. The poor guy just can't see spending marine money.
- Sinking boats bug me. They are then someone's problem--not fair. Haul your crap away before that. Maintain your lines; chafed lines is a pet peeve.
- The thing that bugs me more, is the yacht where they stare everyone down maneuvering within 100 feet, because they might touch, and make a capital case if they see a boat hook come out. Sorry, if you can't take a few dings, haul out. (No, I've never bumped anyone. Yes, I've been bumped a few times--no biggy.)
I guess I feel like others that I would rather see a boat that looks well used, than either a shiny one, or a rotting away one, that lives out its existence at a dock and never leaves.
"Just Chillin" has unfortunately lived part of that life. Her Log book ends fall of '03 after two years of great care and enjoyment by the Bruffetts, who then passed it along. Last registration was in '05, last left dock ...... 4 years ago.
That will change tonight. Were going to motor out near Lost Bridge and watch some Fireworks, and possibly bump into some boats from the local sailing club she used to belong too when Mary and Jeff owned her..... 10 years ago.
And that sailboat I stood on all those many years ago was indeed a Formosa. I recall the boat had a feeling of a Chinese type boat. Seeing Formosas are Taiwanese, and looking at pics of them, I am fully convinced. She was probably all of 40 feet, and quite possibly a 51. And likely still sitting there, rotting.
