Hi Everyone,
With the blessings of our moderators, I have been permitted to post a link to my son's Etsy page. Some of you folks have seen his sailboat drawings, which he bases on what he has seen in many sailboat identification books he studies. With encouragement from my wife, he posted a dozen or so and put them up for sale. What you'll see on this page are his own designs, made up boats, some serious and a few on the silly side. Occasionally, he will do a real boat, too. The point of this little project is to help him see that he has some skills that are worth honing. He has some special challenges and we are helping him to explore his interests in drawing.

We would LOVE it if someone contacted him with a request to do a "commission"; I'm certain if he knows the boat he could send a very nice representation.

Thanks again to Phil for helping us make this possible by allowing me to post this here.

His Etsy page is called Elementalmachines

If you have questions, PM me.

Thanks!

I think they are great! I used to collect boat brochures from the dealers Granddad would take me to when he was buying parts for his boat. I'd take them home and study them, and sometimes build LEGO versions of my favorites. I would make small balsa wood models, too. I'm talking small, like, less than 3" tall.

I've attached a pic. On the left is a photo of my Grandfather in his first boat. In the middle is a small balsa wood model he made of that boat. And on the right is a tiny 2 1/2" long model of a gaff rigged cutter I made from a picture. My Grandmother still has a similar model I did of a Sunfish, complete with yellow, blue, and red stripes on the deck and sail. I've had a terminal case of boats on the brain since I was a little kid

Tell your boy to keep up the good work. There's a forum thread on Sailing Anarchy within the past 6 months where Robert Perry talks about bringing in a young man to work with him learning yacht design. Sometimes I wish I had gone to school for naval engineering or something...

Very cool Brian! About Robert Perry- I have shown my son his funky cartoonish boat drawings before.

You know, Sailing magazine has a regular feature where Perry discusses a design… Plus it's a gorgeous, large format mag to look at.
