We are in the process of buying a 1996 Hunter 37.5 and will need boat cushions for the cockpit. We are looking at the Bottomsliders advertised by Sailboatowners.com as well as C Cushions in Rockport, Tx. We're not familiar with Bottomsliders. Does anyone have any experience with either or both of these 2 products that would help make our decision?

Bottomsiders :)

I've had good luck with them on 4 boats here in the NW. I have heard that it's a good idea to stay away from dark colors in hot areas (such as Texas). I don't have any experience with C-cushions, but hopefully someone will pipe in. Best, Trevor

Looking for response , too.

We are interested in those cushions, too. We ordered the kit for measuring our cockpit and they sent a small sample of the cushion. Our concern is that the cushion is thicker than we want. It seems to be about 2" thick, which leaves less height on the coaming for back rest. We thought we might need only a 1" thickness for comfort since the cushion is pretty firm. Any feedback?

Wouldn't go without them

Have had them for 10 years and completely satisfied. Plus they will stand by the product if you have questions/problems.

Let us know

I am going thru the same decision now. We are about to pull the trigger on some bottomsiders but will wait to hear about your first. I have a H33 but was on a friend's 340 and the cushions were great - for sitting and laying down.

Try Sport-a-Seat

We use them more than the cushions that came with the boat. Provides comfortable seating with back support and can be taken up front for sitting on the fore deck. We probably only get the cushions out twice a year and that is for show. Jim S/V Java

CCushions

I just received my CCushions, and am not terribly impressed. I have only used them once, and there is several nicks in the coating. I think that one would be better off to purchase closed cell foam, and make a cover. We are going to make covers for our new cushions out of Sunbrella to protect them...yuck...these things were expensive. David

Check the classified.

Check out the classified section. There is a set of brand 'x' cushions for a 37.5 advertised for sail. We have Bottom Siders and like them. They do get warm in the summer, so we made covers for them. When the weather is wet we just remove the covers. We had a mouse on board that thought that these cushions looked good enough to eat (and did so). They can be easily touched up with some of their vinyl paint (that they provided for free).

I don"t know ______

____ If I would call these cushions "brand x". They are made by AmeriSeam, and are advertised as the official cockpit cushions of Hunter Marine. The are closed-cell foam with a PVC coated yarn. If you are interested, I also have a set of cushions for the 2 stern seats for 1/2 of their cost. Thanks Ray

Another note about 'brand x'

The Ameriseam cushions are less money and some folks prefer them for hot climates, but they're probably not quite as good as the Bottomsiders in wet weather. The closed cell foam is covered with Sunsure mesh fabric. I saw that set in Gear Here -- we also carry them new in the chandlery as "mesh cushions." Feel free to give us a call to discuss options: toll free 877-932-7245. We've sold many, many sets of both.

cushions

We have the "official" cushions on our 340 and have used them for 5 years they hold up, clean easily and look nice. i do not use snaps rather i put a piece of that "under rug" stuff they sell in lowes etc and the cushions stay in place heeling, standing on etc i also use the sporta seat as the helm seat on top of the cushion ( i keep it tied on as well since when you get up it can go off the back and into the drink)we have other sporta seats for crew especially nice for reading on deck. they sell a terrycloth cover for the sporta seat which is nice after swimming i recommend each product i mentioned in this post all time tested for 5 years on this boat and we are on her 3 days a week from april to nov t.

Bottomsiders

I was discussing these cushions with my boat dealer and he told me that they would not stand up to dog toenails. Since I sail with two standard poodles, the Bottomsiders would not work for me. So back to square one on my cushion search.

Hounds

Interesting thought. We asked some dog owner/Bottomsiders owners and the consensus is that well-clipped nails would probably be OK, but there is a risk with large dogs, as I assume yours are. The mesh cushions would have a lower risk of tearing or premature wear.

Hounds Update

My dogs weigh about 55 pounds each. Their nails are well clipped all the time but I could see how the weight of the dog would force the nail into the cushion. What I want (may not be able to find) is comfortable cushions that can take the elements and stand up to wet dogs lying on them.
