A businessman would never think of leaving the office without business cards, right? Well, in our area Boat Cards are becoming an important part of cruising as well. One of the best things about cruising is meeting new people while you're out. When you get ready to head off in different directions, you can either write down your phone number and email address on a scrap of paper to give to your new friends or hand them your boat card. My mate made ours on the computer with a digital picture of Shibumi (a picture of your boat is essential on these cards) on one side and names, adresses, etc. on the other. They're fun and useful. Do you have a boat card? Are they used in your cruising grounds? Gary Wyngarden S/V Shibumi H335

Yep

I've always heard them called "boat bum cards". We made ours on the computer as well....hand them out at the marina as we don't cruise a lot. Generally, we get to know people by their boat name....and kinda call them that.....ie "the Good Ship Lolipop people" or something like that. The card lets you add a first name to call them, such as Joe and Sally Lolipop for example. But, it is a great place for e-mail addresses etc. Brad

Me too

Don't use 'em a lot but enough. I have my boat logo, name, phone, email on the front and then the story of "Salacia" on the back. LaDonna

I just made 'em

I think a card with a photo, plus identifying information is a nice touch. I included our documentation number, slip and home addresses, email and cell phone number. The digital picture of the boat makes it look very professional. You can download software from Avery and get their #8371 business card stock from Staples and print them up. Never thought about them before......

I never thought about boat cards until I got a couple at the Annapolis Boat Show earlier this month. But I have made business cards for myself on my computer and I use a technique that would work well on a boat card. For work I use a picture of the ladder truck that I work on with the Baltimore City Fire Department as a backdrop. I took out the background and lightened the picture so it would not compete with the text, and print my information right over top of the picture. I plan on making boat cards the same way with a picture of my boat very soon. Barry Broyles Catalina 22 # 1909 "Brighteyes"
