Boat card scanning software

Hi.
Does anyone use scanning software (that you use for scanning and storing business cards) on their boat for boat cards?

There are a couple of apps for the iPad but they say firstly that you should use it then they say in the same breath that the cameras on the iPads aren't up to it. Don't know why you'd buy the app if the cameras won't capture the card info. Our printer is also a scanner if that makes a difference.

Ideally I'd like to store the "output" in my Outlook.

I use Turboscan on my iPhone, but not just for business cards. Scans any document. puts it out in PDF format. Works very well. I can't imagine the iPad's camera is not as good as the iPhone 4.

There is not much info on a boat card. Why not just type it in to your Outlook contacts?

I'm not sure if its out yet but active captain has a boat card add on. Not only does it store the info but it will tell you when you friends are in the same port or nearby

I use it for storing all sorts of information. Including a big list of things I need to fix on the boat

You can take pictures of a boat card with your iphone and it will scan the picture for text. Results are fully searchable. I actually find it easier to retype the boat card info because I add notes about the people and where we met them.

I was investigating ScanBizCards before I asked here. Apparently, the iPad 2's phone is not up to the task with their software, and nor is the iPhone3g (can't focus close enough) and one or two other i-things. I have an iPad 2 for Navionics but I prefer using my Outlook for managing my contacts. My ideal solution is to use my Canon 450D (I think called Canon Rebel in the US) to photo, then run through Card software and directly into my Outlook contact book. Wish.
