I need a blue print of the H-27, the reason is I have a leak throught my port cockpit drain. It is not a hose problem. It only leaks when I am on a port tack at about 15 to 20 degrees of heel. I need to find out what is under there, I am tried of having my aft cabin wet after a sail. It is leaking at the base of the mushroom shaped housing where the thru haul pipe comes from. Before I do some explorive surgey, it would help to know what is under that mushroom shaped housing.

Aft Leak

Could it be from the rudder post? Had a 1969 Kittiwake, 23.5 that only leaked on a certain tack at a certain % of heel and it was water migrating up the rudder post getting past the packing.

drains

Ihave a '78 h27.The drains are connected by way of hoses to cockpit and ice chest. I have checked mine at times, no problems. I modified my quarterberth interior wall to be to be removed easily. This will give you access to the backside of your drains and as a bonus you get excellent access to the stuffing box. I used a single sheet of luan, cut to shape, foam and covered with a matching cloth. I expozed three small 1x2" battens to the interior hull and screw the homemade wall to them. BTW, doubt if rudder is problem, as tube has no stuffing box to leak. Good luck red

check the scupper hose

Check the hose attached to the scupper. You will need to open the rear seat and view the hose that attaches the scupper to the over-board. We were taking water on port tacks and also when it rained. The water would go in the cockpit dain (scupper) and end up in the bilge ater a rain. The sea water would enter the hole the scupper hose should have been attached to !

Aging Through -Hulls

Last season I had a similar problem on the starboard side of our 1979 Hunter 27 and discovered that the through-hull was cracked . Normally( when the boat is upright) the through hull is above the water line. The problem in that circumstance is water that drains from the cockpit floor and leaks into the bilge area at the cracked fitting. When healing, the through hull can be underwater and water can flow into the through-hull and leak into the bilge - especially with following seas. The starboard side was at least reachable from the lazarette. I thought I should check the port side through-hull and it broke off when I pulled on the drain hose. I could not figure out how to reach that through-hull fitting; when you try to get at it from the quarterberth, the openings are far too small to reach through and past the underside of the "ice chest"; so... I duct taped it for the end of last season. Recently, I cut a hole in the bottom of the "ice chest" and installed a watertight inspection port so I could get at the port side through-hull. That all went smoothly ; I hope it doesn't leak!
