Boat Babe,

How do you like living in the 25.5? My wife and I are retiring in 3-4 yrs and would like your opinion on boat size? Is bigger really better? I'm thinking 32-38 ft. What would you do if you did it again for boat size? Thanks. Jerry and Kathy

Re: Boat Babe,

Jerry and Kathy,

We lived on the 25.5 for a couple months while we were closing on our home. I am a former Girl Scout and camper, so the boating-style of living doesn't bother me, but it does most people. If I was going to move onto a mono-hull full time, I would look at about a 36footer. For living permanently, I would recommend the size you are thinking, but I wouldn't go over 40feet (which gets really expensive!) because you will end up with more boat than you need. Its all about how you outfit the boat and use the space. I would recommend making a serious list together of the "absolutes" that a boat must have in order for you both to be happy on it. For example, the top entry fridge drives me nuts and I would not "sacrifice" and put up with one for a live-aboard since I do all the cooking. But I don't need alot of space for no reason. As usual, my advice is worth what you pay for it! Good Luck, Steph

Damn you look that good and you cook too?

You don't do any chart work though? Right?

Keep it up,
Ctskip

Thanks Steph!

We would only live on it for one to two months per year and still keep our house in upstate NY. Your pictures look like you have plenty of room. I would definetly need at least 6'4" headspace because Im tall. I would also need a very comfortable bed. My wife would need air conditioning, and a place to lay out in the sun! Probalbly a shoal draft so I can get in the tighter places like the Intracoastal waterway. Thanks for your advice, I like the fridge idea, I couldn't imagine stacking food on top of each other, especially the brew!

Where are you planing to sail? I see you are near Keuka Lake. One of our girls graduated from Keuka some years back. It is a great part of the state. Were you going to put the boat on Ontario? We sail on Henderson Bay on the east end of the lake. What a great place to sail. You have islands, bays, nice small towns, etc. Good luck with your plans.

Yes I keep my Mac 25 on keuka during the sailing season. It is a great lake to sail on when the wind is right! I know exactly where your daughter went to school it is at the other end of the lake from where I sail. I would love to sail on Henderson Bay, it looks great! plus you can go out into Ontario and check the big water! We will be sailing south in a few yrs, prob 3-4 yrs. Take care and happy sailing! Not sure, but the New England Boat show would've been a appreciated, the booths were full of salesmen & useful gear, but didn't see many solar stiks or boat babes.

I am going to have to show up at one of those with the admiral some time.

I will even buy the hat. We were out of town the weekend of the last lat&atts shebang in the PNW in Anacortes.

Guess we will have to just charter down in south florida instead next time.

I wonder if I could get a job as a boat whisperer......
Take care of someone elses boat.......and keep the boat exercised at the same time....

hmmmm

Has anyone noticed the Boat Babes signature line? Subtle yet direct;). I remember a few great shots from a cruising couple who anchored their 25.5 all down the west coast of Fl and into the Keys. They had so much fun but must work too hard to sail that boat these days...........it's time to return to the water my friend.

With the gauntlet thrown down and the weather near 80 on the white sands of Boca Grande/Cayo Costa this weekend there WILL be some pics from our tropical team. Maybe not the cover of latts and Atts but pics none the less. How about it Brian, still taking Steph sailing? Life is short my friend.

Re: Update from Boat Babe

Been away for awhile. Sorry about Whisper. We lost our 17 year old Himalayan in November. He loved the boat too.

...but the way I look at it, I would rather trade a few of our "YOUNGER" years for the freedom to cruise full time in the near future. We WILL be returning to the sea... soon, and on our own terms!

Here's a couple pics from a choice run down the coast to Cayo Costa last weekend. I took a ton of shots but now have a new appreciation of how hard it is to get the right shot. Kudos to the work you've shared on your former blogs.

"Full time cruising in the near future" There's a beauty in being able to stick to a plan like that, even when you want to play(especially when you're being tempted to skip out). You're on to something good that'll surely work out well. All our best as you both work the plan.

Now I better get back to the grindstone myself.
