Inherited Dog and Cat

My last two dogs were inherited from my children who no longer wnated them. My son was all happy about a new lab puppy for my grandson. I tried to convince him that a lab is a handfull. Anyway he and his wife were too busy to spend time with the dog and he became a problem. My wife loved the dog and now after I have spent a lot of time he is a pretty good dog. The dod before we inherited from my daugther when she moved into a no pets apartment. The stupid cat came from my Daugther too. When my Granddaughter was born the cat kinda flipped out. It was pretty well behaved but started shreding furniture and peeing on everything(he was fixed). We tried to adopt him but after he started peeing and shreding we put him outside. Some dogs caught him and broke his back and we put him to sleep...very sad. Pets are a big responsibility and I haven't wanted a dog since I got two english setters 20 odd years ago. Ralph(the lab) is now part of the family and it's till death do we part. My daughter hasn't gotten any more pets and I think that my son has learned his lesson too. If we go cruising hopefully my brother will care for Ralph while we are cruising.

My dog....

My dog is just not a water dog. Will wade in to the river or a lake to just below his belly but when that gets wet, he starts to get pretty edgy and wants out now. We've taken him to the boat but he was not initially impressed with having to walk down the dock. In fact, if we painted his paws, he would have left a line dead center down the dock. After a few days, he seemed fairly fine, was good jumping on and off the boat, going down the dock, even stopping at our boat. All that changed when we went for a sail. As we idled away from the dock, his ears went up, started licking his lips and the panic panting. He settled down, got a little nervous when we heeled over (so does the wife) and seemed fine for the rest of the trip. As we pulled back into the slip, I hopped off on to the dock to tie the boat off, looked over, and there was the dog, sitting dead center of the dock. Neither I or the wife saw him hop off, but he took the first chance he had to get off the boat. We leave him home now, he's happier, and actually, so are we.

I'll keep an eye out for Empty Pockets

I'll be sailing the northern islands of the Bahamas at the end of this month. I'm meeting the boat in Nassau on the 19th, we'll sail around for a week or so and then take it to S. Florida. I'm heading home on 6/5. I know there are a lot of islands and anchorages in the Bahamas but if I happen to see Empty Pockets I'll be sure to give you guys a shout. Tom s/v Orion's Child

Dragonfly, we're in now!

In fact we are up here now. We have spent the day so far putting in the new holding tank. Not too bad, just trying to get all the cabinetry back together. It's gray and chilly today but we are hoping for better tomorrow! I love your boat babe picture. I hope to post some soon.

Get out?

Could be worse - I'm still waiting to get in...get in the water, that is. Waited all winter for the nice weather, and have yet to be splashed :(

Been ready for 2 weeks Brian...

but I've got yard traffic ahead of me still and some winter storage stink pot is still occupying my slip. Not a happy camper right now. Just have to ride the hog more until the boat goes in. Tried to email you guys a while back, but I guess the address I had was an old one. Enjoy your vacation and get that general ticket so we can meet up on HF. Regards to Steph... Gregg

oh yeah the 30 knoter

We sailed out of Baltimore. The wind speed was about 5 knots, but, I looked up and the flags on all the tall buildings were straight out. I told the Captain "I'm not sure a 164 sail is the ticket. Lets just go with what we have 3on." As we passed Fells Point, the wind perked up. By the time we hit F6t. McHenry it was about 20. Then the bay. Now it was up to 30...and climbing! Usually, being a Lake Erie sailor, I would have reefed. The reason being, who knows whats going on? I looked through the binoclears and all the other boats had either the main up or the jib, but not both. Then the wind hit 32 knots, the maximum reading we would get. We passed the Eagle. We went under the bridge. Then...I counted over 60 sailboats on the water! They were having three races out o Annapolis. The restr of the boats were out because it was windy!!! I looked at the guests and crew on these boats and all feelings of trepidation (I was somewhat scared) were GONE. I didn't even care that the roller furling line snapped and we couldn't take it in!!! The wind is relative to the conditions. If 30 knots means 15 foot close waves, then panic (as in make sure we have enough beer to get through this bumpy ride). If the waves are manageable in 30 or 40 knot winds...then that's what its all about! Or get a trawler.

Where in the World is (my) Boat Babe!?

Check out the size of the fender someone left behind on the dock. (Hint: the owners went out for an afternoon cruise)!!! The down wash from their helicopter had us bare poling at the dock!

FUN

Looks like she could be fun about anywhere! BTW, I had problems posting a picture on another thread. Turns out it was Mozilla Firefox. I used I.E. and didn't have a problem.

No disrespect

I know Bob V. I'm sure Brian would sell many more calendars than Solar Stiks. The calendar is more within my boat budget this year :) Maybe Brian can have Steph "model" the Solar Stik, add some advertisements, and write off the the calendar expense to advertisement! I'm sure many boatyards would like to have them hanging in their shops like the car repair shop calendars.
