I am looking for a boarding ladder for an Oday 22. There are transom mounts and amidship mounts. Is one preferrable over the other?

The ladder is on the stern on the 222 and it works well. I would assume that it is less disturbing to those on the boat if you "rock the boat" bow to stern when boarding as compared to side-to-side so I would go with a transom mount.

I had the side mopunt on my 222 and hated it I switched to a stern mount. just be sure it is long enough

i would go with the transom mount. with a side mount the boat will probably heal when climbing and you'll find yourself trying to climb leaning over backwards.

Consider your size and the size of your boat. I'm 300 lbs and a midship ladder on a 19 footer would be foolish for me. If you're under 150 lbs, it may not be much of an issue. The advantage of a midship ladder over a transom is you're not working around the backstay. That's the only thing I can think of.
