boarding ladder treads

My 89 Hunter Legend 37 has a hinge down transom boarding ladder that is very convenient except that the 1" diameter tubing is tough on feet. I am sure that this problem is not unique to my model boat (or even to Hunters). Has anyone figured a way to add treads to the ladder?

Del: If you have a new West Marine Catalog, on Pg 725 there is a product from Johnson call Sole Mate Ladder Treads. They are plastic and attach to the ladder rungs. It is W/M# 490136 and Johnson# JOHNS48-560. We have used them for several years. They hold up in the sun and save your tooties too.
