The picture above shows a swim ladder/platform combo that is different than anything I have ever seen. The sailor that posted this (Ron Pearson) doesn't seem to know the manufacturer. I presume that means he is certain it is after market. Has anyone else seen this ladder/platform and know who makes it? Very interested in finding something like this for our boat....Hunter 28.5 Again the link is.... http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/pix.tpl?folder=73127065966&sku=30974196791723405&fno=17 Thanks George and Shawn

interesting

Never seen anything like that but I was wondering if one could just make it themselves out of 2 ladders and place teak planks in between the rungs? Just a thought. Do a google search. Good luck.

I can only imagine what a 200 lb person sitting on the outer end of that platform would do to the attachment points on the transom of a 28.5. You might want to consider some significant reinforcing inside the transom provided you can get into that area. You may need to cut an interior access opening from the port side quarterberth just to install the backing plates & bolts on that side.

Yeah, I would hope...

that there were serious backing plates to spread the loads that this set up would put on the transom of this or any boat. I'd actually want to have some more support on the outside surface as well. The "lowering" mechanism might provide a lot of support, but I'd still want lots of internal/external load spreading area.

Backing Plates Needed, But...

...you will notice that there are lifeline cables for support, as well as, that block/tackle the will add additional support strength. Nonetheless it does seem a bit like overkill in the "engineering" dept when a regular stern ladder will possibly do the job.

thanks to all

The posts about the stress on the transom are duly noted. We had thought about that... also googling on "very slow dialup" for an hour is a treat :) I thought a post might be more expedient. The goal.. 1. same boat...just purchased/upgraded from a 22' last year and we like this boat a lot. 2. we would like a swim platform...we have a boarding ladder but feel a swim platform would be enjoyable. (for us and our black lab) I will respond to the other individual posts with these questions but in case you are reading this... a) approx cost to have a platform fabricated as posted... b) what magazine/date had an article about building a platform as posted? Thanks to all who responded. George and Shawn

can't find the picture

Can't seem to find the picture..there is no link on this forum and nothing in the photo forum. Maybe I just don't know where to look. Also can you give me a ballpark of the cost? More than $500/less than $1000? Thx Shawn
