^^ Why guess and then post answers? I don't understand that.

Read the MSDS sheets. They will explain that EG is moderately toxic to mammals and effectively non-toxic to marine life. They will explain that both degrade rapidly in soil or water. It is not absorbed through the skin and at is not in the air unless at very high temperatures (boils at ~ 375F). Read the EPA studies that I posted.

Want to keep pets safe? Just don't leave it in a bowl. It really is that simple. Would you leave any chemical in an open container? I hope not. In the past some folks were very careless, leaving drained AF anywhere at all, and that was a problem. Recycle it (best) or rinse it away (safe for animals, at least).

Done. Post deleted. Wasn't a guess, just didn't have time to look up the source when I posted. Not a problem since your reply is more clear.

Air is non-toxic to everything except un-panted iron. I really don't know why you guys go to all the trouble and expense of buying anti when air
works
is cheap
and not nearly as much trouble to put in the system
does not take half of the next season to get out of the system.

LOL! You are right, in general. But there are a few things to add:

a. Some systems are hell to blow out. I have an instant water heater the loves to hold just enough to break something. But for most sytems air is great.
b. The better brands offer VERY good corrosion protection. The cheap stuff with alchohol is a disaster. I did the corrosion testing. You probably had a bad expereince with a cheap brand.
c. Unless the user either uses glycol below the recomended dose (it will ferment below 20%) or puts glycol in the heater and tank (easily avoided--they should be filled with air!), rinsing out the glycol should take only a few minutes. If it takes longer than that, mistakes were made. In 30 years I've never had that problem.

My windshield washers never fail to freeze up when I need them most in the winter./QUOTE] there are various options for windshield washer fluid....summer blend and winter blend. The summer blend is only good to about 20 degrees F and then it will freeze. Don't ask me how I know!

Great post! Is there an advantage using EG over PG in the raw water side of a diesel? Does it have a higher bursting point. A 50/50 blend of EG can be cheaper than a -100 deg PG. I winterize on the hard and use a bucket to catch the fluids coming out of the wet exhaust. I was thinking If I ran a few gallons of EG through and salvaged it could it be used again the next year? I run my engine for a good 10 minutes with fresh water to warm up the oil before changing it out and winterizing.

Yes, EG has slightly better freeze depression properties, but the differences are very slight. Google up a chart (Dow has burst point charts for both).

Also, EG is much easier on the impeller, specifically if it is neoprene. PG will ruin them in one winter.

I always winterized with EG the engine and head and with vodka the drained fresh water system. 15 years in Maryland winters.
