I have been under the Blue Water Bridge in a power boat but never in a sail boat. I keep hearing that it is hard to move there. Another guy said you have to call TowBoat to give you a hand. My max speed under power is 5.5 knots. I expect to take all day getting up the river but the rumors sound a bit over the top?

Stay as close as you can to the Canadian side and you should have no problems going through there. I've been through there many times on a Catalina 30. It will probably take about 45 minutes from the Black River to Lake Huron.

We did it several times before relocating our boat to the North Channel. Local advice was to stay very close to the Canadian shore (there is adequate depth) and there was no problem for that hull speed.

I grew up in Sarnia and you should have no problems if you follow the advice already given. Stay closer to the Canadian side and you will be fine. Enjoy your trip, that is a beautiful area.
