I have been looking for a 30-33 ft cruiser that will sail fast(ish) and be on the upper end of seaworthy. Budget tops at $100K. The main issue is the bowsprit that extends from these types of boats. That 3 foot piece of wood will cost me $1,800 annual extra in slip fees, after I sit on a 6 year waiting list for a slip over 33 feet.

I've looked at the Ta Shing Mason 33, which is just about stunningly perfect, however the LOA is a few inches too long  -so, am looking for a boat that is at least in the same category as the Mason 33, that is between 30 and 33ft LOA - no sprit. Any suggestions?

Fractional rig Tartan 33. Not the T-10. She is faster than the Island packet and priced quite low. Caliber is more expensive. Another choice is a Sabre.

Island Packets are sloooowwwww. Good boats, but not fast. And, you mentioned fast. Tartans and Sabres would be a better choice in that category. J/Boats are fast and you could find some of their cruising boats in that price range and size. C&C might deserve a look. Cals are decent sailing boats.

Thanks all,
Pacific Seacraft, Caliber, Island Packet: All have bowsprits. Again, no sprit desired.
Looks like Tartan or Sabre are likely candidates.
Thanks again.

Another possibility is a Challenger 32. It is a 70's California boat built heavy, big lay up, oversize rigging, simple rig, long fin keel, built-up rather than moulded interior, big tankage, Perkins diesel. Like most of the era, any you get will require a lot of refurbishing and updating but the basic boat is an excellent platform to start from. Here is one old listing: http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/8265

J boats are good, but I would not consider them "blue water". some of the 80s vintage Morgans _ not the Out Islands - might be good candidates. Some of the Perry designed Valients and Tayanas might fit the bill, as well.
