this is an oem Blue Sea 7003 circuit breaker 100 amp panel mount, with 2 studs on the back for the wire in and wire out. (vintage 2005.) there are 2 identical 7003's, one 100 amp controls the windlass , and an exact duplicate 100 amp CB controls the 'main fuses' for 12 v. we were sitting at anchor having dark n stormys. or a while we'd had no windlass there was no power coming out of CB for windlass into the control box, the reset leg wouldn't go up, so i bought a new switch. friend said, i'll replace your windlass circuit breaker! i said nah let it go. he siad, let me. there's ' a main 12v rotary switch shut off, we shut it off. he went in to the panel and tried to get the old CB out, he'd hve to take the hole panel off so said nah let's do it later. turned main 12v rotary switch back on -- i now suddenly have no 12v dc circuits whatsoever on the boat: no nav lights, no engine panel, (can't start engine) no VHF, no refrig., no cold beer. the 100a main fuse circuit breaker --which he WASN'T working on -- won't reset, the little leg won't go back. up..pressed the red button repeatedly , the little leg won't go back up. note the only thing running when all this happened was the refrig. Any ideas??

Try resetting both CB while the power is off at the rotary battery switch. Most switches will reset unless there is the presence of a short circuit.

First, the 7003 is not made anymore (it's be superseded by other models); and it's rated at 125 Amps.
I'm a bit confused about what you and your friend did. If you have two identical main breakers (one used and the other not), then why not simply disconnect the unused windlass one and try run the wires to the old one? If the unit won't reset, that's a bit confusing. I believe these are thermal cut-off type breakers. Disconnect the downstream power line; and try seeing if you can reset it. Then disconnect the supply, and try the same thing. If that doesn't work, then call Blue Sea. Something would have to be amiss.

Do you think your friend could have reversed something?

I'm also a bit confused, but pushing the red button should trip the breaker and the lever must be reset (pushed back up) by hand. I don't know why you would push the red button, if the breaker was already tripped?????

he tried to take the panel off to access the studs for the windlass CB , but was unsuccessful. while he was prying at the left windlass CB mounting screws attaching it to the panel, we suddenly lost all 12 v dc. (the right CB is the 100 amp 'main fuse ' CB which he wasn't touching. ) since he did not get the panel off i cannot imagine that he short circuited anything. (on this boat, after the 100a 'main fuse' , power goes to each individual DC circuit such as 'dc lights' 'gps' 'refrig' . each circuit is thus also is controlled by its own breaker, and none of the individual 29 flip-switch C / breakers tripped. the 'main fuse' CB 'reset' leg did not drop down, but the CB does not seem to be functioning. Today i tried turning all dc power off with the main 12v rotary circular switch, checking that both CBs did not have the 'reset' leg pointing down, then turned off each individual dc circuit. then i turned each back on , still no joy... this was all done without any connection to shore power. i'm calling blue sea tomorrow.

That doesn't sound good. Might have shorted and burnt something behind the panel before it is protected by the breaker?

news!talked to tom the tech at blue sea. told him the scenario of the 2 identical oem install 100 a blue sea 7003 s. how windlass breaker was dead. how main fuse breaker apeared ok but then went dead. it turns out tha the old 7003 s were replaced by a more robust 185 series thermal breaker . when the red reset button is pushed , the reset arm drops and the circuit is open. if the reset arm won’t restore tohorizontal and stay in place the breaker is shot. but on some of the 7003 s the rest arm can be pushed back to horizontal but the breaker still will not function properly to allow all voltage to flow. so blue sea is sending me 2 new ones .. now that is spectacular customer service, and why my boats have used as many blue seas parts as possible...
