Can anyone tell me how I should redo the blue Hunter line on our 91 30T? Bits of the original are missing. Can I get hold of the same stuff from somewhere (1 7/8ths" wide) and do I have to remove the existing or can I stick it on top? Hopefully yours

some ideas

you need to take the old stripes off. the best way i have found it with a rubber eraser tool offerd by auto body supply houses. they use them to rumove the stipes from cars. you may need a couple of them. put them in a drill and they work well. If you put on new vinal over the old everything will show thru and look really bad. then you can go to a vinal letting company and get the tape. you can have it cut to any size you want. or you can have then install it. It is not to hard but easy to screw up. If its not too expensive let them put it on.

I second Ed

Use the eraser wheel - forget the chemicals. Call Hunter and they will send you new stripes. I got a set for my 26.5. Hunter Parts = 1-800-771-5556, ext3015. I talked with Mike Thomas.

Like this?

Dose rubber disc hurt the finish? I am thinking of buying the boat in the picture and the stripes on the cabin as you can see are all cracked and faded. Removing these is what you are talking about correct? Thanks! -- Jeremy

made by 3M

The wheel is made by 3M. It will not hurt the fiberglass. If you are removing the stripes from the entire boat buy several. They wear down quickly and one always somehow drops into the drink when changing. They are about $20 each at at professional auto paint supply shop. Chris

Easy Way

I removed my stripes last winter and used an old trick I learned from professional Pinstripers. If you use a heat gun the stripes will peal right off. It only took me a couple of hours to remove all of the deck stripes on my 285. I liked the look so well I just kept it that way

Heat works on soft vinyl......

Patrick: Removing the tape below the toe rail with a head gun may work. If the vinyl is still soft, it can be heated and may lift right off. Once the vinyl get old and brittle like your cabin stripes, I doubt that the heat gun will work. I tried may times without any success. I tried chemicals too, and that was not the best way. Then I found the "Eraser", you could probably plan on doing the cabin in an hour or less. If the vinyl is thick (as it appears below the toe rail) it takes a lot more time. I suggest that you get a couple of wheels and arbors, they always seem to head into the water when you would least expect it.

It This What You Are Talking About?

I haven't used this yet, but I have the same problem with my '86, H31. This was recomended to me. Can anyone tell me if this will do the job? Is it like the 3M one that is discussed in this post? Thanks for your input. Bro. Paul S/V Magic Wind Fort Myers, FL
