Wind song

Hi we just recieved our 33 hunter. At the Boat show we noticed the demo models had a unprofessional look to them and the colours ran into the white hull. Kind of looks like blue scratches. I wrote Hunter and told our rep. When the boat came it had one good side and one side that it looked like some one ran a blue crayon for about 6 inches. Apperently this is under the clear coating. Does anyone have any suggestions to say to the rep/Hunter. It is obviously apparent. I took steps to get it addressed. It may affect the resale value? What kind of compensation should be discussed?

The boot stripe (I assume near the water-line) should NOT have the clear coating on it. That is supposed to be removed when installed. I had a similiar situation, in that there was clear coating that was not removed on the port side. When the 'rigger' for the brokerage company attempted to remove the clear coating, he tore some of the boot stripe. They will be replacing soon. The boot stripe is simply a vinyl tape. the bad portions can be removed (cut out a length with a razor blade) and replaced with new. Mine has not been done yet because when the rigger came with the tape, it was 1" instead of 7/8" (or vice versa?). So, he will be back some time with the correct size. You have a 1 year warranty during which time Hunter (thru your broker) should repair anything that is not correct. Michael

Not that simple

The boot stripe is Gelcoat and is the first thing that goes in the mold when the hull is being laid up.

Re: Not that simple

I was referring to the vinyl tape boot stripe (about 7/8") which is above the gelcoat boot stripe (which appears to be about 3 inches?). Repairing the gelcoagt bootstripe would be a problem, I agree.

Good Luck with Hunter Marine

Let's be honest - the quality and build of the new Hunter 33 leaves a lot to be desired. That has certainly been my experience with a new Hunter 33. Try crawling under the cockpit and checking it out. There are missing bolts, half-tightened screws and poor glass finish, etc. I currently have an unresolved issue with Hunter Marine and the stock answer from Hunter is "what do you expect this is a production boat". Seems to me, in their view the word "production" covers a multitude of sins. The Hunter 33 is a good design and and some things are pretty innovative - as with all Hunter designs. However, production quality is not up to the sales and brochure hype. I guess Hunter's philosophy is "we build to industry standards and with our dominant market share we are the industry - so we set the standards." I am quite sure if I had to do the boat buying thing again I would look more closely at the competition.

Well thats funny

Even living way downunder (where Hunter do not have a very big market share) Hunter have been fantastic with my queries and any work needed under warranty. For example my rudder developed a fine crack. An email to Hunter went unaswered for a few days but to my supprise a brand new rudder turned up at my business. A number of issues have been handled very very well.

Hey John G...

what is your "unresolved problem" with Hunter? Seems that might let us evaluate your opinion expressed above a little better. Perhaps the correct/best response to your problem is that Hunter says. Absent that, you opinion re Hunter seems baseless and one of the typical "Hunter Bashers" that swing by here regularly. Lots us here at HOW have been very satisfied with Hunter and our Hunters boats.

Brand Police are out in force!

Sorry I am the spoiler at what appears to be an intoxicated party, guys. What do you want me to do lie about my experiences? This is a Forum where owners air their views and experiences. Seems to me most people say they are prepared to die for freedom of speech - but I guess it only applies in circumstances where they agree with what is being said! That Trojan Horse analogy for example is so infantile, please! I cannot openly discuss my "baseless" issue with Hunter because it is likely to go to litigation. In any case, for the hard core supporters I doubt it would make any difference. For Mark in Australia - you inadvertently hit the nail on the head. When a company is developing a market its behaviour and responses are impeccable. So I would expect no less from Hunter with respect to its efforts in the Australian market. However, market dominance in North America is a different matter. Finally for those who care to, I will willingly take you through my boat to show you some of the quality deficiencies I speak of. But for the brand policemen out there, come along but please leave your blindfolds at home.

Well, I guess we have to childishly lay his

aspersions to rest. Can't say anything on-line, in an anonymous forum because of a pending law suit,,,,Yeah, right.

I did not even buy mine new. When I move up I'll look at Hunters first because of the excellent service I and others have received.
