I am interested in purchasing a 30' Catalina ranging from 1976 to 1990. Does anyone know a source for blue book value and what major overhauls need to be observed on these models? Thanx

Blue Book values

Try the "Catalina Blue Book" link from the homepage on this site for values sourced from Soundings Marine Net. Also, www.BUCvalu.com gives a price range for boats based on condition and location. Good luck! Trevor

Yeah, what he said

You can also try NADA.com. But don't overlook the value of local ads. If you have a Boat Trader magazine in your area, check it out (same as Auto Trader but for boats). Keep an eye out in the paper and at local marinas. The search is half the fun! LaDonna

I just went through this...

I just went through a similar search and settled on an '85 Tall Rig, very well equipped, and in excellent condition. You will find prices similar for certain model years, look out for any apparent bargain, there may be problems. If you find a boat you are interested in, proceed with a survey from a certified marine surveyor whose references you've checked. Significant problems could be serious blistering, engine problems, deck hull separation. Replacing standing rigging, running rigging, can be relativly minor expense and negotiated in an offer. Consider what you want, my boat has refrigeration, AC, autohelm 4000, AM/FM/CD, custom cockpit cushions, bimini, new sail cover and pedestal and winch covers etc., etc. The latter stuff really adds up but may not add much value to the boat per se, so look for a boat that has stuff on it, you'll likely find one. This is a great sailing boat, you won't regret it! Good luck!
