Hi, New 326 owner here. Would someone be able to help identify the 2nd deteriorated vent hose and how it should lay? The 1st is for the blower and I guess the 2nd is a general vent to the compartment. Does it attach to anyting and if I replace it, how far forward should it go?

TIA
Ron

Hi @niceshoes6 , and welcome to the site.

I installed my own air cooling system to cool the alternator with the newly installed alternator regulator. It would have caught fire without the supply of cooling air. NOTE: these bloody messes of hoses are for cooling fans only. Ventilation is not required on a diesel with access to free air.

This is a shot of my single hose which exhausts the engine compartment.

The inlet air to the compartment sweeps across the hull bottom and then up under the engine. This is the coolest air available in your boat. Don't install and air supply hose to the compartment. It will only reduce the effectiveness of the cooling system.

Thanks that is helpful. I'm still unsure how to route that seemingly broken vent hose. Does it lay closer to the engine? It doesnt appear to connect to anything. Should I cut off the bad part and leave it where it is?

Ah, glad you pointed that out, I believe its linked to the "blower" switch on the panel but ill confirm and report back : )

Hey Ralph, The inline blower works and pulls air out of the compartment. (when do I use that?) The other crumpled hose I imagine is for fresh air intake. Should I extend that further into area, maybe by the strainer or cut off the bad end and leave as is?

Diesel, which does have me wondering why there is a "blower" but on some of the other pages here folks use it to remove hot air from the compartment.
That’s correct, both to reduce the heat dissipated into the cabin, and to help components like the alternator work better in cooler ambient air.
