Bloody wire and rope halyards...

Hello,Just lost my jib halyard to the crane again and I just refuse to lower the rig...I am making a fools pole from PVC and a SS hook, to pull the 'bugger' to deck...I am fed up with my frozen fingers, and I will be running a whip to the shackles down the forestay and mast to a turn to perhaps a small caribiner...Thus there is just no bloody way I can lose the buggers, and when all measured out thru padeyes, I will have just two small lines up the main and jib luff when raised to masthead...Anyone else having done same tell me your woes, please, am I the only wanker about...SH.

25 Tall RigMy wire main halyard was left at the masthead when my mainsail headboard broke. I really don't want to drop the mast. Would appreciate any tips on getting it back. Sam.....

Gary,Since you and I share the same sailing area, this problem isn't too difficult to solve. When I lost a halyard, I politely asked the owner of one of these tall boat houses used for the sport-fishing boats if I could use his deck to retrieve my halyard. All I had to do was snug my boat up closely and reach out with my boat hook to snag the shackle.Maybe I'll see you on the water this week-end. My boat, La CaraVita, will be plying the waters of Perdido Bay or anchored in Ingram's Bayou:^)

peeled for you and a tall rig as well. Good idea, I was thinking that one of those rigs wouldn't be tall enough, but a boat hook and my height added, probably could reach it. Wish me luck. Thanks again...Gary

I got it!!

Just wanted to let you know that I got that sucker down. It was a walk in the park. I attached a fish tape (very stiff wire for pulling elec. wire thru conduit) with a hook bent in it to the jib halyard and brought it up beside the main halyard shackle and kept twisting the hook until it hooked the shackle. Sailing will be in my holiday plans now. Thanks for all the help guys.....Gary
