Bloody Dacron

I really gashed my finger today on the boat, and unfortunately stained my mainsail.

What's the best way to remove the nastiness, or do I just declare it a badge of honor?

Found this on a site about ultralights

Dacron® Sailcloth - Mildew/Blood Removal: Remove both blood and mildew by brushing the stained area with a stiff dry brush. Soak the remaining stain (stained area only) in a mild fresh water and bleach solution for 1-2 hours, lightly scrubbing the spot occasionally. Rinse liberally with fresh cool water. Remember that mildew is a fungus growth and you should stop the growth and clean the affected area immediately upon noticing it. Since preventing mildew is much easier than removing it, please follow proper storage recommendations.

Try drug store peroxide first. Then use bissel carpet cleaner.

It works on light colored carpets in houses where the kids have come in and bleed on the floor before they could be hustled into the kitchen.

Won't hurt polyester. Any form of bleach on cotton is damaging

just spill chlorine bleach on a pair of jeans.

Oxalic acid

The stain comes from the hemoglobin (iron) in the blood. Oxalic will dissolve the iron (instantly); nothing beats oxalic for dissolving 'iron' stains.
Rinse well when done.

Milk

Soak it in milk and then rinse out. I can't remember where I read that but I used it once to clean a blood stain out of carpet.

Not sure about the sail, but couple of years ago when I came down off the mast in a big hurry, I bled all over the port side of my boat. It sat there for almost two months before I was up and around enough to take care of it. A magic eraser made it seem like childs play to get off. Literally just wiped it off.
