Always ensure you have enough scope out and that your anchor is set well. you never can tell what might hit

. Does not look it but yes we are anchored… did not drag.

Finding room for enough scope in BI on the July 4th weekend is more of a challenge than some people realize. :facepalm:Glad you held. I heard some didn’t.
Tip 2 - stay away from BI on the weeks bordering the 4th and Labor Day. Very crowded.
Tip 3 - BI has generally poor holding. The bottom in the SE shallow anchorage is hard pack under loose sand, and in the deep anchorage to the N it’s mud that doesn’t hold very well. Combine that with holiday crowds, raft-ups and a squall, and it’s a recipe for mayhem. Better off trying to get a mooring if T-storms are in the forecast. Call the harbormaster if you can’t find a public one, and they can usually find you a private one for a night.

Block us just weird. I was there a few days after the 4th. Clear weather through the race, but no sign of Block. Finally saw a fog bank right where the island should be and went into to it right around the harbor entrance. Two hundred yards later I was in the harbor with brilliant sunshine and the fog still behind me. Couldn't see the entrance from inside either.

We dragged our mooring in a particularly bad T-storm. Harbormaster's team had to move many moorings back to their former spot in the morning. It was mayhem in the anchorage!
