Blob Material

Looking for a recommendation on what to use to seal my new cable (left side) in my Nav Pod. I'm guessing silicon was used on the old cable (on the right).

You could try some Self-amalgamating tape to wrap around the wire then slide the cable back into the hole. It would help to plug the hole and at the same time center the cable in the middle of the hole to protect it from chafe.

Or hold the wire centered and try a blob of silicon caulking. Sika 291 is a Professional grade Marine Adhesive/Sealant for example.

So I'm going to ask the question. Why does it need to be sealed? It's mounted to the binnacle, put some butyl tape on the binnacle around the opening and your done. Sealing the hole just creates a mess and makes running new cables harder.

Just a thought.

A good question @vhoisington. Suspect he is just trying to keep water out. I would be more concerned about chafe and damage to the wire as it comes up the binnacle tube goes over the edge and into the NavPod.

Local hardware store should have rubber grommets.. you can find one the correct size then slit it to get it around the wire.. wrap it on the wire then with some lube (liquid dish soap) and patience, get the grommet seated in the housing..

Goop dries to a hard rubber in about five days. I’ve used the red stuff to make gaskets for my swing keel trunk but if you want to spend more they sell it in a tube labeled MARINE also

vhoisington is on the track. The Nav Pod comes with a gasket that fits between the binnacle guard and the Nav Pod. If the gasket has been installed and is in good condition, there is no reason to do anything else to prevent water from entering the NAV Pod. What you do want to do is provide some chafe protection so the cable does not get damaged by the sharp metal edges.

That is what I'm looking for.
A rubber grommet would work if I could find the right size.

You can buy a variety package here I am sure. Or at any of the online stores. You can get them with seals for the wires too.
