Blisters

I'm thinking of buying a O-day 27 it has some blisters on the bottom. Can anyone offer advice.

Survey it!

Ron -Blisters are not the end of the world, though you do want to deal with them. I would not proceed without a survey to tell you what you're really looking at. The surveyor can then tell you what really needs doing. I know a couple of hundred bucks isn't fun, but its cheap insurance.Justin - O'day Owners' Web

I bought an Oday 25 last spring and had it surveyed. The survayor found about 30-50 small blisters less than 1/4 " in diameter. He said that they were very small and they disapeared in front of his eyes (Less than 5 minutes) as the boat was lifted out of the water for and inspection. I keep my boat wet docked in fresh water. He also suggested I keep an eye on them and next season see if they have grown, if they did not then no problems and if they did I can then get them fixed.The survayor also said that for the price I was paying, even if I had to have the blisters corrected, it would be well worth it. blister repair

I repaired about 200 dime size blisters on my 27 in 97. It is a 77 hull, #693. I used a brad point drill bit to remove the gelcoat where it was blistered, and then used a very shallow ground conventional fluted drill bit to remove the "doughnut" of gelcoat, if any was left in the blister. I then filled the crater with West System epoxy with the recommended fillers, and then sanded the hull fair and applied 6 coats of epoxy with water barrier filler. The hull coating has held up very well since then. I put VC17 directly on the epoxy for fresh water bottom paint. Good Luck!
