So last year we had out C30 hauled and found 4 or 5 small to medium sized blisters (quarter to half-doller sized). The people at the yard said they were no big deal and painted right over them (we used Interlux ablative paint). First question - will we have to paint the bottom again this year? (we are in the chesapeake bay and used 3 coats of paint if this helps). Second question - how many blisters is enough blisters to start worrying about? We dont want to compromise the structural integrity of the hull with too many blisters, but we would rather not have to repaint again this year? Is there anything else I should know about blister repair before taking her to the yard this spring ? Thanks, RBJ

small blisters

After hauling in November, I noticed a number of small blisters on the bottom of my Morgan 382. The pencil eraser sized bumps showed through the bottom paint, and after probing I found that only the gel coat was involved, adn the laminate was intact behind each one. I stripped the bottom paint in the affected areas, and ground the blisters out (easy job with a Dremmel..) I'll fill them with West in the spring and wait to see what happens next year. If more start to appear, I'll patch them, but also consider removing the bottom paint and barrier coating the whole thing. If you're only looking at a few small blisters, why not grind them out and fill them rather than just paint over them? It's not that much work and might give you some peace of mind... Larry

Minor Blisters

are like a minor fever. They may - or may not - be the precurser to major problems. I agree /w Larry. Look now, and repair as they appear. (at your annual haulout) OMO Gord
