Bleeding the fuel system?

I replaced the racor fule filter, I thought I got all the air aout but I didn't. So I followed the manals directions on bleeding. I can't seem to get any fuel past the injector pump. I have fuel to the injector pump but if I open the bleeder on the return line on top of the injector nozzle there is no fuel. I have also tried cracking the supply line to the injector with no fuel there either. Any Ideas?

Bleed it

you did not say if you replaced the filter on the engine also. I always start by bleeding the air of at the racor filter then by using the manual fuel pump bleed the air off the engine filter after the fuel flows bubble free from the engine filter continue to the injectors and bleed off all the injector lines using the manual pump and then the injector return lines. Once you have fuel flowing bubble free from the injector lines it should start and run. Another option is to use the compression release and turn the engine over with the starter while bleeding. Good luck

Thanks for the reply Jim. Before I got it I went back to the boat and got it going. I never was able to get fuel to show up at the injector lines with the manual fuel pump lever though. I released the compression had my 6 yr old daughter Emily crank it over for about 15 seconds then i closed the the compression releases and it fired right up... I'm still wondering why I couldn't pump fuel up therough the injector pump using the manual lever of the fuel pump. I wonder if the diaphragm is ready for replacement? Scott

Bulb pump

A tip I picked up her on the HOW is to install a bulb pump like you have on a outboard engine's external gas tank. They sell them at BoatUS and West's and other places I'm sure. I installed mine after the primary (Racor) filter and before the lift pump on the engine. The bulb pumps fuel much more efficiently than the little lift pump (which I've read won't work if the engine is cranked at a certain rotation) and makes bleeding a lot easier.

Bulb Pump II

I second Bryan's suggestion. A very good idea and really works well. Bob Miller Gusty Getaway

Thirded... Except I put mine between the tank and the Racor. That way I can use it to bleed the Racor and the secondary on the engine. Jim "Prospect"
