I looked in the archives and could not really find this info for my motor. I'm sure it is there I just couldn't locate it. I have a 1981 c-30 with a 5411 and I'm going to change the fuel filters for the first time. I would like any hints for making it simple. Also I have read past posts about a lift pump or hand pump to start bleeding. I can't find this on my motor. Do I have one? I have a racor and an engine installed filter. I don't have an electric fuel pump. thanks for any help.

Hand pump bulb.

Mine hand primer bulb is located on the port side of the engine and comes from the fuel tank to the primary filter. All I do is take the filter off, fill the new one with clean fuel, install it, crack the bleeder screw on top of the filter, pump the bulb till fuel comes out, close bleeder. Wah Lah. it is that simple. If you don't have a primer pump, might I suggest you install one?

5411 is easy to bleed.

I've got a 5411 in my 83 C-30. I think it is a very easy to bleed engine. Althought the owners manual says you have to bleed in 2 steps...skip the first one. Just crack the bleeder nut open that is right next to the injector pump and crank. Obviously release the coppression lever first...when the fuel runs without bubbles, close it down. DONE.

5411

Steve, I agree with Dave. I have a 5411 in my 81 30 Cat and don't have a hand pump system either. Once you clean the filter bowl out, fill with clean fuel and CARFULLY replace the new filter in the bowl. (The replacement filter I bought came with instructions on the filter box). Crack open the bleeder and crank until no more bubbles! I put a bunch of paper towel down to catch the excess fuel. It's nice to have someone with you to crank while you watch for bubbles. Took a total of half an hour at best. Good Luck Ron

dollar solution

I used a $ store catsup squirt bottle, squeezed it and hooked it to the hose from the engine filter on my 5411 the vacuum pulls the fuel through the filters and in to the bottle, use that fuel to fill the other filters. It takes some squeezing but you dont too much fuel in the bilge. Besides it sucks trying to get mustard in to those damn bottles.
