I have a 1981 Catalina 27 with the 10 hp Universal Diesel Engine and I changed the fuel filter for the first time. The previous owner fitted the fuel system with an electric fuel pump automotive type. I have opened the bleed on the upper side of the filter housing and with the key on for 10 minutes no fuel? The pump is running, does anyone have any ideas?????

another bleed screw...CAUTION
There is a bleed screw that must be opened on the high pressure fuel pump on the front side of the engine. Get a squirt of fuel at the filter, then at the high pressure pump (cranking engine). Remember to close the raw water intake when you crank the engine without starting as you are pumping water in the engine and the exhaust is not blowing it out (sea water can then flow back into the cylinder).
