bleeding fuel lines on a yanmar sb8

I have recently replaced the fuel filter and strainer on my sb8. Does anyone have any advice for bleeding the fuel lines?As well the plastic oil fill cap on the gearbox ( under the exhaust pipe) appears siezed with the finger grips almost sheared off. Any suggestions for getting the cap off.Steve

my son just explained to me how he successfully blead his fuel system on his ysb8 so I can't say with experience other than second hand what he did - apparently your fuel pump is electric which should be obvious. If so, loosen the filter bleed screw, turn on the ignition and let the pump do its thing until you get good fuel out of the screw and you're done (with the low pressure side). Easy!Don

May have to do much more than that!

I once ran out of fuel and was able to get the engine started by meerly bleeding the filter. This season I had the fliter off for longer than I should have and had to belld the whole system right through and including the injectors.Try just beleeding the filter but be prpared that you may have to do quiet a buit more before the engine will start.

Try this trick with a hospital syringe

I have an SV8 also and when I change the filters Ido the following:1) Change the filters.2) Disconnect the fule line from the engine mounted filter and let it run into a cup. I save the fuel for step #5. This let the pre-filter on the bulkhead fill with fuel and fills the fuel lins as well.3) Reconnect the fuel line.4) take the bleed screw out of the top of the engine mounted filter (be careful it's an easy sucker to loose).5) Use the syringe to take the fuel from the cup and use it to fill the engine mounted filter. You'll be there all day if you try to use the thumb leave on the manual lift pump. 6) When the filter is full no use the thumb leaver. A little fuel should bubble out. Noi air. IF you get air wait a minute or so and add a little more fuel with the syringe.THis work for me and shre save time.
