Is there an easy way to bleed the fuel system after a fuel filter change.
ie reducing a mess when bleeder screws are opened

Try refilling the new racor and secondary filters with fresh diesel before you spin them back on. That way you wont have as much air in the lines. When you crack open the bleed valve only open it enough to allow the air out. This shouldn't take much. Also wrap a rag around it to catch the fuel.

Racor filter?

Hello,
You probably have the Volvo primary filter with a metallic lower bulb. If you change it for a see-through Racor filter (to see if there is any water in the separator), the new Racor filters incorporate a powerful manual primer pump. From there follow Mike's good housekeeping instructions.

I installed a squeeze bulb in the fuel supply line to the 3YM30 on my 343. (Typical outboard priming bulb) After changing the filter you can squeeze the bulb until you hear fuel returning to the tank through the return line. Bleeding made easy.
