Just my humble observation

Tony B, I was leaning towards the varnish. I have walked the piers and depending on the product and workmanship, the results seem to vary. Do you reccomend any specific varnish? Thanks, Nick

If that "blue jell" you mentioned is FSR, it is: Isopropanol 4.5% oxalic acid 4.5% propriatery 91 % I assume the proprietary component is a surfactant in which case, if you were to use a mixture of Fantastic, 409, etc... with a greater concentration of oxalic acid, you might have a better mouse trap but, without the viscosity necessary to make it ahhere to the surface, it would likely not be as effective as FSR which is my favorite cleaning supply.

Alcohol (NOT THAT KIND)

Stove Alcohol at WM... $ 28.99. Stove Alcohol at HD.... $ 14.00. Seems like an easy decision to me...they both fry eggs. After buying alsohol at HD I can afford to buy the eggs...and some drinking alcohol. Judges?

I have also bought stove alcohol at Ace Hrdwre and other Hardware stores at about $12/ Gal. Point being.....make WM your last stop, not your first. Keep in mind, that we dont want them to go out of business because sometimes they are the only ones that may have what you want. IMHO Tony B

Great minds think alike. Also note that my last boat, my Catalina 30 was named "Free Spirit" sams as yours. For those of you not familiar with ethnic expressions 'Fa-cocta' is not Italian. LOL Tony B

Other than your boarding ladder, was there any damage to the Free Spirit? It looks like it was in pretty decent shape in your pictures. Manny

RAD: nice ass. LMAO Manny: The damage to my Catalina was not that bad. Outside there was the stern ladder, Bimini, Dodger and jib that was damaged beyond repair. Other than that, just some scrapes but nothing major. On the inside...not a drop of water. Other than the cushions strewn about, that was it. When i looked into the bilge, there was a hairline crack in the forward section near where the compresion post was resting. The surveyor was not that concerned with it. He felt that it could have been ground out and reglassed. There was also some damage to the bottom of my rudder. The boat was totalled out by the surveyor. I think, but not sure that the repair costs were grossly inflated due to the fact that there was no marinas, no boat yards, no storage areas, no place at all to get the boat repaired. Pretty much everything was wiped out from the Texas border to Alabama and lots of previous damage to marinas the year before by Hurricane Ivan and other hurricanes in Florida. Whoever ended up with my boat got a heck of a deal. New stove/oven, new central heat and air, new cushions and custom bedding etc etc etc. Tony B
