I am planning to add a blackwater holding tank, not provided originally. Hunter sent me specs for a rectangular tank, for location behind the bath cabinet front, but I think a custom tank would hold considerably more and fit better. Wondering if anyone has done this? Also, I plan to replace the original fabric covered cushions with thicker, better quality resilient foam cushions covered with Ultrasuede, which should be much more comfortable and vastly improve appearance. I also plan to double the effective crankcase capacity (originally only about 2 liters) and greatly improve filtering by adding a Coast Guard approved Amsoil remote bypass filter. Thanks for any information/suggestions about adding a blackwater holding tank! Dave Ladely, Seattle, WA USA email: DaveLadely@aol.com

Bill, if you have odor inside the boat...

The holding tank, unless it's leaking--which is entirely possible if the tank is metal, but unlikely if it's plastic--isn't the source. I just covered this in another thread yesterday...read my reply to this thread in the Headmistress forum: http://www.sailboatowners.com/forums/pviewall.tpl?fno=11&uid=73191640303&SKU=2006289081609.93 Both you and Dave should find the link below useful too.

ADDING A TANK good Idea

I have a 1991 30T with a bladder type holding it sets behind the head under the back birth next to the stuffing. It has hoses and water lines from all over the boat laying on top of it and it sets on top of the blocked overboard discharge. I have thought about moving mine someplace with more room. A Hunter 1990 30g sets next to me and his plastic holding tank is in one of the stern swim steps Lots of room back there. You may look at those areas? So about that odor ????? Good luck on installing a tank

Head Cabinet/Ronco tank

In 1990, Hunter moved the holding tank to the aft compartment. Lots of room there. I think the best place in the 30G is in the head cabinet, next to the head. The cabinet comes completely apart, for easy access. Ronco makes a tank with an angles side to accommodate hull curviture. If you really want to maximize capacity, they will custom make a tank from your drawing. The other advantage of this placement is that the drain hoses can be located at or near the bottom of the tank, allowing for complete emptying.
