Black Streaks

I need to clean the black streaks off my wax'd boat, can I use IG Pink? how much is enough to clean the streaks, and not remove the wax?

John,I have tried IG Pink up to and including full strength without successfully removing black streaks caused by pollution. I have also tried citrus-based cleaners and full strength Simple Green. Nothing seems to work except Soft Scrub with bleach. I hate to use the stuff because it is abrasive, tough on the hands and near impossible to totally rinse off. I always have a residue after the surface dries. I am sure it removes IG products too… So, I spent hours applying the IG products and getting the boat looking just so only to have a month’s worth of rain leave black streaks that won’t come off without removal of the IG also.Any and all recommendations are welcome.

If the black streaks aren't too old, I have found 3M's Black Streak Remover to work really well. It does, however, remove the wax so you need to re-wax. It beats Softscrub.

Wax 'em away

I just take the dinghy around and wax them away. Builds up the wax and they don't seem to come back as bad as before.And it does not take a lot of rubbing.

Preventing and fixing "black streaks"

Any wax based product gets hydrocarbon sooty streaks (try dipping a candle into old engine oil!). All black streak removers are actually wax removers but most wax is little else and is easily removed, while Swax is mostly resin and very thick.Our latest version of SB Superwax has much less wax (before it was sort of supersatureated) and therefore much less stainable. MH Superglaze is all resin and does not stain.All recent kits have some of the MHSuperglaze icluded. YOU CAN USE THIS TO REMOVE BLACK MARKS AND SEAL THE SURFACE TOO!,Send me an e-mail through the IG site or provide an e-mial address and I can send you an instruction sheet on this very problem. It used to be a problem but now almost negligable and easily fixed.I will even supply samples if you need them.Thanks JimW

I also have had very good luck with 3M black streak remover. So much so that I passed up other products when WM didn't have the 3M.
