Everytime we take the boat out we get a lot of black exhaust on the stern platform. Is this a common Hunter problem. What is the best thing to use to clean? Is there a way to stop this from happening.
ill take it off your hands hey you could write it off as a tax deduction(charitible contribution)seriously though im guessing its new maybe its burning a little oil on breakin ?
Mark:Where do you keep your boat? We are at Hidden Harbor (right around the corner).I would contact Dr. Jim at Island Girl. I think that you can use the I.G. Pink and get the stuff off. Then you need to use his protectant and wax which will protect the gel coat and make it easier to clean. You also need to find out why you are getting black smoke on a new boat. This may be an indication that you are over propped.
Mark,We have had the same issue on our 290. Seems like it was worse early on. We cleaned it up good and waxed a few times. Does not get as dirty now (one year old boat). With the exhaust in the water and under power the rear sets down a bit and the water swirls around in the swim step area it seems that it is bound to get a little dirty.Dan Jonas (S/V Feije)
Mark:Let's give a little more thought to Johns idea about the soot in that the fuel puts out. Before you fill up with fuel again, think about picking up some SOY Diesel in the bay area. This stuff runs about $5.00 gal. If you use a mixture of this 30 percent Soy to 70 percent Diesel you will be looking at an average price per gal of about $3.00. You can increase this ratio but this is about the recommended mixture. This may help the sooting problem some.I would still be sure that everything else was set properly before I would take this route.
Check your warranty on your Yanmar, soy oil additives may void it. They test the fuel in the system when doing warranty work. This happened to someone I know and their warranty was void.
