Hi! This may sound a little strange but I'm not quite sure how else to go about this. My husband loves sailboats and wants to purchase one someday. His birthday is coming up and i want to take him on a sailboat cruise. Only problem is I don't know where to start. Everything that I have found so far is for a rental and neither of us know how to sail yet. I was wondering if there was anyone who sails from either Baltimore or Havre De Grace that would be willing to take my husband and I for a sail. I am willing to pay and work something out. Thanks. My email address is horsegoddess29@yahoo.com

If you go South to Annapolis:

consider a cruise on one of the Woodwind schooners. These are modern boats and can be hands-on if you choose. Puts you on the water in the middle of the sailing "scene." Eat out at a good local restaurant such as Carrol's Creek, which overlooks Annapolis Harbor, or Boatyard Bar and Grille (cheaper but no waterview) to complete your sailing present. And since you are new to the sport: a good sailing gift is a course at a local sailing school. Talk to us some more if you need advice in that direction. Click on link below for the Woodwind schooners

Why don't you sign yourselves up at the Annapolis Sailing School and both learn - together. It may be fun! Big boat experience in a small class. Check it out in any of the major sailing magazines.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I agree with Paul

Paul had a great idea. A sailing class would be awesome for you guys. It would be a good learning environment and you all would have a lot of fun! It is nice to see a wife taking interest in her husband's intersts. That is awesome! Good luck and hopefully we all will see you guys out on the water!

Harford community college runs a sailing

course for credit. Some classroom study and several hours of boat time with each student taking each crew position in turn after each tack. You get about five or six rotations through all positions each time.

Try the Sunsail Resort website ...

My wife and I went to their Colonna Resort in Antigua and had a fantastic time. They have a beautiful resort, are very friendly, and have a virtually limitless supply of small boats to sail and windsurfing gear, which is all inclusive. For the Caribbean, the value is outstanding. You can get extra instruction if you want (at additional price) but they don't pressure you AT ALL for this service that they offer. We suggest that you go on their normal Friday to Friday dates (which is a little odd for Americans). We went Saturday to Saturday and found that we would have been in the swing of things better if we fit their normal schedule. It was entirely British the week we were there, but the following week the entire gang from Latitudes & Attitudes showed up (most from San Francisco). We had such a great time sailing and relaxing at the resort every night, we were definitely not ready to go home after just one week. They are very oriented to families, so if kids are a bother to you, that could be a drawback. The only drawback was that they don't have a nice swimming beach and the taxis are very costly for getting to beaches. We highly recommend it and think it is perfect for people who are just learning to sail small boats. They do have a charter service on the island where they could take you for a daysail in a small cruiser. We didn't do that, but will consider renting a small bareboat cruiser for a day or two when we go again (for a longer stay)! There are direct flights from Newark (and other airports, I'm sure) so it is a very convenient AND friendly island to travel to.

I'd like to appologize Robin

Seems readytocomeabout has had a bad day. It is a fact of life that bad days happen. Although they do seem to happen to powerboaters more often if I'm any judge. I suggest you take a poll of the comments and judge for yourself how big the community readytocomeabout lives in. Of course it only takes one bad apple. We (I think I can say we) surely hope this does not put you off sailing.

SAILING, SAILING

Robin, I will be coming through your area around the first week of Oct. Bringing my new, ( to me ) boat from N.J. back to New Orleans. Will be glad to have you aboard for a while. Depending on you future plans, a traveling boat might give you a better idea of how you like it than a day sail. Will be on a 37' with only my girlfried on board with me, so room will not be a problem. If interested, post up on here and I will send you my email addy. Phil aka Nice N Easy
