Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find the plastic "flags" which are attached to the spreaders to keep birds from landing on them, I've seen them on many boats, and they seem to work well, but I can't find them in any marine catalog. Any Ideas?

grocery bags

I have bought the flags at west marine but have also used grocery bags. When they fill with wind they move around and make noise. They are cheap too.

Solution

Contact Coneys Marine in Huntington, New York (631) 421-3366. They sell (and install) bird-x spikes or the spreaders which work perfectly and have no disadvantages. I have had the bird-x since I bought my boat & I've never had a bird problem and the bird-x is barely noticeable.

Some flashy ribbon from one of the shrouds may help. The spikes definitely will, when I worked at the Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio (worth the stop if you are very near there at all) we used them on all the aircraft on outside display and they did the job very well.
