What do you use to keep birds off the mast head? I have an Osprey that eats fish while up there and leaves a mess. I have tried "Bird-x", a sticky, toothpaste like substance on the mast head but after a few months it dries out and the bird is back. Thanks for your tips, jack

Try this

I use "Too-Tuff" dark blue tarps of 10x15 on the bow and 10x20 behind the mast to keep the deck covered from weather. Birds become irrelvant as a result.

Try a cat

Duct tape a cat to your mast head. You can run food up a halyard.

Plastic Owl

I have a plastic owl but I don't use it :) Don't need to...a boat on the next dock over has one and it seems to keep them away from my boat too :)

cat box

I tried the cat thing like Higgs suggested. It worked out just fine, however I had recieved a number of comments on the unsightliness of the platform I built on the masthead for the cat-box... So what I did was dress in camoflauge and wait in the dark for the evil creature to return, then I threw a stick of lighted dynomite at it. Unfortunately the fuse was just a tad too long. Luckily I was anchored fairly close to shore and only had to swim about half a mile to safety. Problem solved... no more boat!

Sounds like a "catastrophe" to me. If you duct taped a cat to your mast, would that make it a "cat boat" or a "catamaran" ?
