I noticed a bird flying off of my boom the other day and then later heard some loud chirping coming from inside the boom. It seems that there are babies inside. What can I do now to get them out? I would prefer not to hurt them. Any ideas?

Wait it out

Only way not to hurt them is to wait it out after they hatch, they grow really fast and will leave. But block ot with something because another brood will be along. This happens many times in the spring when people don't cover their boom ends.

Next Spring

Inspect the end of your boom regulary during the early spring. I always pull at least one nest out each spring.

The other thing is...

...that if you leave it open for 24hrs, the little guys will already have a nest built. They are FAST!

Snakes...

We had birds neting in the end of our main sail cover. Chased them away and destroyed they're net several times. Bought 2 - 2 foot life like rubber snakes at a garage sale. Hung one off the end of the boom and the other above the cabin door. No more birds... and a lot less bird poop on our boat. A cheap, easy fix.
