AAaaaarrrrgh!!!!..........That is just what we need more big Government! :cussing: There are more effective ways of handling idiots with a duck feeding habit with out any government moron involvement.....and it has proven quite effect in our marina. READ MY PREVIOUS POSTING!The problem will persist as long as the ducks are well fed and unharmed. They are basically pets at this point. Visual and acoustic scare devices are not effective as the ducks will become accustomed to them unless the are used in conjunction with lethal (shotgun, predator) control. Since shooting is not an option and predators seldom attack your target species at the location where you want them to, a physical barrier such as the overhead fishing line (at least 30 lb test strength) or netting is the most effective deterrent.
Ultrasonic devices are not effective for repelling birds; they work only on some dogs. There may be chemicals available that will deter ducks from consuming the feed the owner presents to them. Contact the USDA, APHIS Wildlife Services in your State for assistance.
My problem is with seagulls. I tie metallic, shiny (sp) tape (the kind they use in orchards and vinyards to scare off birds) to rigging and spreaders, or anywhere I can. I also keep some cheap blue plastic tarps over the deck for extra proctection while boat is moored. Still get some crap but definitely not as much. Frequent trips to boat also help. The more you're on it the less they are.:dance:Does anyone have any solution for keeping birds off of docks and boats?
The problem that I, and a bunch of my slip mates, are facing is that our dock is getting covered in duck poop. I mean every square inch of wood was covered the other day. It is nasty!
To complicate matters, the owner of the marina likes the ducks and feeds them. He puts fresh water and food out for them. He does not go out to the docks and clean up after them.
Would plastic owls, plastic snakes, or anything like that help keep the birds off of the docks and boats? Actually, they are mainly using the docks and rarely the boats. Still, there has to be a legal way to keep them off.
Any suggestions would be appreciated (other than b-b guns or Alka Seltzer).
Maybe..... . It also inflates if lodged under flesh.... Not that I recommend breaking any laws.Chris Patterson said:Why dry ice, Phil? Projectile disintegration?
Let me guess all it cost is a loaf of bread.:stirthepot:Here is a submission. I have yet to title it. I'm not too keen on calling it untitled. It just doesn't do it justice.

I may be a bit bias but I think that a 5' by 7' piece would look great on the wall or car of someone that feeds these troublesome birds.
