Binnacle guard

My binnacle guard was custom made by TIQ, now White Water Marine: http://www.whitewatermarineinc.com/ . It was $100. but that was a few years ago.
You can buy a new one from Edson for about $340 (http://www.edsonmarine.com/marinestore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1018), but I would troll the consignment stores in your area first. You may get a better price there. These items also come up on eBay now and then, so you may want to keep an eye out there, as well. If you buy a used one, keep in mind you'll also need mounting feet and mounting plate.
FYI, the pedestal guard on my H28.5 is invaluable, as a secure hand-hold, mounting platform for drinks, horn, GPS, etc. (See pic below). Very helpful addition to the boat.

Warren would you by any chance know the dimensions of the stern of a 28.5 we are re naming, I wanted to try and order lettering without going to the boat
CMp1110: Sorry, I do not know the dimensions. You may want to post this question on the www.huntertwentyeightfive.com/ as some of the owners there may know.

I would measure it if I can and if you tell me where abouts you plan to mount the new name decal? I could be more accurate. Would it be just above the transom mount for the ladder??? My boatname is in that locale- and is somewhat eclipsed by the latter in the retracted position. The home port is just below the mounts.
for what its worth, I recently measured for a bimini- and the diagonal rear cage rail at the lower life line loop is 98 inches(+/- 1 inch) side to side( mount to mount). I suspect that the coming at the transom top of coaming may be 89-92 - just a guestimate.

Do you already have the pedestal bracket that holds the guard?
Personally I do not like the legs of the guard mounting in the cockpit sole. My preferred method is to have the guard made so the legs are bent and flanges are made to screw intot he pedestal post. This method prevents water from getting into the cockpit plywood if you ever have a leak.
