The steering gear is probably Yacht Specialties. The company has been out of business for many years now, and I know of no vendor of spares. As the gear wears out or breaks, people replace with entirely new Edson units. You may be able to find some of the old YS units at consignment shops. If you can't you need to have custom work done by a marine fabricator. The guard itself is easy, but the plate which attaches the guard to the binnacle would be the expensive part.
I had to rebuild the base of my 34"s ped. Talked a lot to Edson and found that they were very much the same. Try using an Edson mounting plate. We have a boat scrap yard here in Florida that has a lot of new Edson parts including the plate that holds the tubs for the binnacle guard and the guards. I just installed a pedestal guard on my 1983 H34. I purchased the Edson model from West Marine. It installed without any modifications. The only thing I'm a little concerned about is I think my throttle stops short of full because it hits the pedestal guard. I need to figure out what I need to adjust to solve this problem. Has anyone tackled this?
