Has anyone had any experience in buying a bimini from Boat U.S, West, etc., for a cruising sailboat? I got a price of around $1300 for a custom bimini, and wondered if I could save any money on this. Thanks.

Closer than you think...

Sailboatowners seems to have your price beat. I haven't bought one from them but they are easy to deal with, plus you'd be supporting this forum.

Try getting one made in Canada

Hi, Try getting a Bimini made for your boat in Canada. You will find that the Canadian pricing for such things will often be somewhere between the best American price and what that price would translate to in Canadian dollars based on the exchange rate. For example, you might find that your Bimini at $1300 USD will cost you not $2450 CND (the equivalent based on the exchange rate), but something closer to $1800 CND. On this basis I have ordered a dodger and full enclosure (to attach to my existing Bimini) from Genco Marine in Toronto. Ask for Nat Jr. and say that Jack Lightstone (Westmount, Quebec, with boat in Willsboro NY) recommended that you buy in Canada. Good luck Jack

Custom Bimini

North Sails, Annapolis has consistently been the best in the northern Chesapeake Bay, though not necesarily the cheapest. They are making a rail mounted, three frame bimini, about 7' wide and 6' front to back, with a sail trim 'window' and boot for around $1150 for my Hunter 28.5
