I have an '83 34-footer, and I need a bimini top. (My boat has the split backstay.) I'd like one that will cover as much of the cockpit as possible. Are there any standard versions from suppliers that work well, or does anyone know of a good supplier or fabricator in the Washington-Annapolis-Baltimore area?

Bimini Tops

You can buy Bimini tops through either West Marine, BoatUS or Defender. Check each catalog, they have all sizes and color choices for the top. I would recommend that you get one that utilizes 1" Stainless Steel Tubes rather than the aluminum tubes. You can also have a bimini made to order from most canvas shops. I was able to pick up a used bimini from the place I purchased my boat for next to nothing. I do need one bow made and a few conection parts. The end result is I would be out of pocket no more than $150.00 for the bimini. I have priced them from canvas shops and they range in price from $800 to $1,300 for a made to order. The catalog prices are less. Good luck,

Extra Bimini

I just happen to have one. Its dark blue with cut outs for split backstays and about 118 inchs wide (I'm not sure how long). It does have a window for viewing the winddex. You can e-mail: stroh@adeq.state.ar.us

Bimini for a 34'

I purchased a 1984 34' recently that had a dodger but no bimini. Because of my complexion I had to immediately have a bimini or I simply could not sail the boat. My solution was a large bimini that was made for the boat to match the dodger. It also has connector to provide weather protection. Cost? $1500 and well worth it. This should last a least 6 or 7 years.
