Does anyone have pictures of Bimini in use? All pictures disregarding following question. Does anyone have a Bimini rigged for use while sailing? Pictures in use while sailing? Has anyone changed location of Traveler/Mainsheet on 26? Ed K 26

Sorry I don't have any pictures of my bimini in use and it has now been removed from my 26. (due the irritation of ramming my head into it) At 6-4 and nearing 70 years of age I don't bend like I used to. They are great for a sunshade while anchored but I found it too confining while sailing. Not sure why you would want to move the main traveler. Going aft you would run into stern rail problems. Going forward I would think you would run into leverage problems. Sort of like having two vangs?

In South Carolina the mid day sun is ... I have seen an O'Day 27 with a bimini that has holes in the roof for the back stay. The only way to use the bimini that I have is at anchor with the boom over. I am seeking info if anybody solved these issues and how. Since I am not tall so I can bend to fit under the bimini as sun shade. On this lake midday sailing is best with a sun shade. The main sheet also interferes with the bimini I have, that is why the boom has to go off the sides to work. Other boats do sail with bimini. Ed K 26

Maybe if you measured carefully, you could use one
of the biminis that mount to stainless hand rails (as opposed to coamings). I think this could be slid back to almost touch the back stay and still clear the mainsheet up front. This might not be a super long top but it still leaves some room to stand up straight between the back of the top and the rear hand rail. I really enjoy sailing with a top on my oday 23, but the space at back is needed to stand and change shirts, cast a fishing line, climb out of a dingy, deal with the engine, put mainsail cover on end of boom or to tink over transom when single handing. I think they could make a railmount top for you on this site. I consider a bimini that can be used while sailing in sun a must. Nothing I have done to my little boat has brought as much comfort and enjoyment as the top.

When I referred to "this site", I was talking about the one we were both on, as in O'Day Owner's.com. If I needed a railmount bimini, I would definately buy it here. Good luck, Lance P.S- IMHO, the key to being happy with a bimini on a small boat is precise measurements. Get a helper to handle other end of tape. You can make the top a couple inches wider than your mounting point. This will give more shade and you will be able to flex the bows in to their mounts. Also, make sure the bows are curved enough on top so rainwater easily drains to the side(like the ones in picture on this site). If you buy a cheap top, the bows are flat. Heavy rainwater will puddle and soon destroy the top. I offer this info after having done it wrong at first on my own boat.
