I have a dodger on my boat and wish to add a bimini. because the end of the boom comes just in front of the binical the bimini would have to be short. I was also thinking about adding a "fly" between the bimini and dodger for protection while not sailing and to add side and rear curtains to turn the cockpit into a storm enclosure. I sailed with a friend on his 37' from Portmouth, RI to Portland, ME last week. He has a "fly" connecting to his dodger and has side curtains for the sides but not the rear. It worked fine. Anyone have any experience or thoughts they could share?

Bimini

We have a 356 with a dodger, bimini and fly. We installed the bimini to the rear of the arch and the fly goes from the front of the arch to the back of the dodger. This is a great combination. The fly comes off in less than a minute and only takes a few seconds longer to put on. We sail with it off and it provdes great shade while at anchor or sitting at the dock. We are happy that we did not get the factory bimini and opted for this instead. Dan Jonas (S/V Feije II)

Why short?

Mickey, isn't your boat the same as the picture in "Related Link"? It has the same setup as my H37C. When at rest I lift the boom with an adjustable topping lift to prevent chafe. When sailing the boom really does not come close to the bimini. I have the forward edge slightly lower than the middle and back frames.

photo?

Do you happen to have a picture of the bimini/fly/dodger arrangement?

my boat

I have an 89 Legend 37 and my bimini extends aft behind the backstay bridles for about 2 feet. I could take some pictures if they might help you. I have a dodger but since I sail Florida/Bahamas, I don't have much use for it. In fact, I have not had it up since I bought the boat a year ago. The frame is stored on my dock and the dodger (looks like it is brand new) stowed down below.
